No one is without excuse for knowing, even in a small way, about God. For God has made Himself known since the creation of the world. We see this in Romans 1:18-20.
In vs 19, it says, “what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.”
And in vs 20, “for since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.” (emphasis added)
While this blows my mind, (the fact that all men are held responsible for rejecting God based upon their knowledge of Him through creation, even though this knowledge is not enough to save, God still holds them responsible) I see God in a much greater way. The evidences of a Creator are obvious in creation. This should lead us to search and grope for more of Him (Acts 17:27). As I read more I am reminded of God’s sovereignty by John MacArthur’s statement, “If a person will respond to the revelation he has, even if it is solely natural revelation, God will provide some means for that person to hear the gospel.” Look at these passages: Acts 8:26-39; 10:1-48; 17:27
So all men are held responsible and are without excuse when they reject the natural revelation of God in the things that are created. For these things reveal God’s invisible attributes to all men. So all are responsible in their accepting or rejecting of creation. But, those who will accept it we see in scripture that God will provide for them a way to hear of true saving faith. For natural revelation does not save, but the gospel of Jesus Christ leads to salvation. In a moment of application, I have the “good news” of Jesus Christ. Who has God called me to go to today to share with them the true saving faith in Jesus Christ?
Scripture is clear. We must be ready to share!
In vs 18, scripture begins with God’s wrath coming down upon all who suppress the truth, who reject God. And we see that no man is exempt from seeing the natural revelation of God in all of creation.
Men are dying and going to hell! Has God planned for you or me to be the one who might share the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ with someone? He has! So why aren’t we? Look at Romans 1:16-17.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ‘The just shall live by faith.'”
If you know people are dying and going to hell; if you know all men are condemned based upon rejection of general revelation yet general revelation cannot save; if you know the gospel is the power of God unto salvation; why do you remain silent?
Are we ashamed?
